Justcallmepete runs this evening in the 6:30 at Chelmsford.
Despite finishing just outside of the places, we were all extremely happy with Pete's last run at Kempton. They went a breakneck gallop that day, and having been taken off his feet in the early stages, Pete just couldn't quite make up the required ground in the straight. We felt that he lost nothing in defeat, though, as his sectional times were strong. He battled and probably just bumped into a couple of horses who were better suited to the right-handed track and the slower surface.
Today, we return to Chelmsford. Pete's had two prior runs over this course and distance and has finished 1st and 2nd. We don't have the greatest draw this evening, but there appears to be plenty of pace to our inside, so our hope is that they'll get racing in earnest out of the gates, allowing Pete to settle into stride and save ground. Ultimately, that's the key to him: a strong end-to-end gallop and a sustained run. We know that we will probably have to concede track position due to our draw, which may well result in a wide challenge off the bend, but with the way the track's currently riding, we don't see that being a massive disadvantage, especially as it should allow Pete to get a clear run (famous last words).
Ultimately, we will be at the mercy of our rivals, and we will have to reverse Kempton form with Baldomero, but you write Pete off at your peril, and if he gets what he needs this evening, we expect him to be very hard to beat. #Eatsleeprepete
